(But thats just, like, MY opinion man)

I feel the same about Kerouac as well.

Nope, my opinion too. 'On The Road' is as dull as fuck.

"First we went here and then we did this and my nan wired me some money and then we did this...." for 300 pages.

Yup, absolutely bollocks in my opinion too.

Its actually really interesting, loads of cases where idiots have to pay out silly amounts of money, on both sides, brilliant.

This is taking up about 75% of my days at the moment in college and at home.

make sure you get both the adult versions and the children's versions to check for differences in the text

is one to assume you're pissing about...?

Rob: enjoy 'em mate, they're really fun books. it really winds mem up when people start going on about "for fucks sake your an adult and they're children's books!". a good book is a good book and they written well enough that it doesn't matter if you're 13 or 35.

I'm enjoying them. I loved all the films and it took me ages to bother watching those too. I like how they get progressively more massive.

    • Just finished 'Keane The Autobiography', an enlightening and breezy read that mercilessly cuts through the bullshit of modern football. I love his account of the Haaland tackle in 2001.

As for Bukowski, when I grow up I want to be an overrated drunk misogynist with a clumsy writing style. Bring on the hooch!

I keep meaning to get hold of that, but I fear the reaction of my Man City fan housemate...
About to start I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.

      It's a great book.

Time to bust a myth though, Keane did not end Haaland's career. It was his other knee that forced him out of the game

Nope... just deliberately set out to end his career... what a nice man.

as i said on another thread, i'm currently half way through Haunted by Palahniuk, i'm getting into it now.

before that was Only Revolutions by Danielewski, which was awesome.

might get myself a Bukowski next. because he's (was) awesome.

YES!! Mark Z Danielewski is my hero.... have you read house of leaves? it is absolutely outstanding... Only Revolutions was a thoroughly good read but i think its going to take another 50+ reads to catch most of the hints and clues.

Harry Potter... is the drab doodlings of a bored house wife.. i read the first one and didnt care what happened to any of those little mugs.

I understand what you mean about Kerouac... i read on the road and was a bit disappointed.. i was expecting a far more hedonistic read.. it did dull out and it was told from the perspective of the dullest of their gang. Burroughs shits on him.

    • i understand why people dislike Bukowski but i think he's amazing, his style just makes sense to me.

kerouac is indeed dull as fuck, at least from the little of his stuff i've read.

yes i read House of Leaves a few months back and then straight away bought Only Revolutions. Both are absolutely amazing, HoL especially with it's 6 or 7 different levels of fiction one on top of the other. Danielewski is a total genius in my opinion, anyone else and i'd laugh my arse off at them for charging £20 a book but i'll happily pay it for him.

I do a bit of the old writing myself and everytime i decide to reread one of his (Danielewski's) books i just end up thinking to myself... whats the point? i can never compete on his standard.... House of Leaves was his debut... 10 years he spent on that? its immense

everyone has to start some where.

i'd love to write a book. probably start with a few short stories, then combine them then make it longer.

i'll probably never get round to it though
