Mirror Revelations Ígnea

/incoming/mirrigne.jpgThis is such a cool album, one that wormed its way into my psyche and made it home. The catchy rhythms that litter the seven songs within play a game in my mind, making themselves heard when I’m just waking up or walking to the shops.

Mirror Revelations are from Mexico, Ígnea reaching us via the ever-excellent Fuzz Club Records from London. Every song here dives headfirst into a electro dance beat, often from the get-go, despite the overarching nature of kosmiche repetition and dense psych wonder. This combination is the defining feature of the album, confusing your body as your limbs want to move whilst your mind is submitting to the cosmic expansion.

The early timings of the beats expand through repeating cycles, turning distinctly psychedelic, of a Japanese historic flavour as much as German, despite obvious calls to bring in Kraftwerk as a calling card. There’s something of the Deafkids approach here too. Towards the end, on the long Despertar you can get lost within its waves, a sensation unlike the majority that you will feel within our standard psych settings; as much akin to being immersed within a psychedelic ambient techno club.

This is a rich album, excelling in both aspects of the approach but shining brightest when it merges seamlessly. You’ll dance and lose yourself in your own mind, often within the same song. It is a fun and yet equally dense trip throughout.
