Here’s a deep slice of wild psychedelia from Aoki Tomoyuki of Up-Tight, with Mike Vest who you’ll all know from a multitude of bands (Bong and Brain Pills among them) and punk legend Dave Sneddon on drums.
It is wonderfully enlightening album. Echoes of the Last Word is almost whimsical with a hazily flourishing sway to it that tricks you into a lulled, smiling state the longer it goes. It is rather warming, a nice mixture of the cosmic star setting trip-out guitars and the nearer the front of your attention clearer instrumentation, creating layers to get lost within, topped off by the vocals' dreamy drawl delivery.
On the title track, deep bass lines and discordant guitars make for a heady atmosphere, wonderful right from its early, playful phase. It is content to just stay here which I’m more than happy to find; rich, deep tones within kaleidoscopic, cosmic wanderings. This is exactly what I want from deep psychedelia.
The album is replete with such exploration and quality – this collaboration of musicians setting out on psych adventures and inviting us all along.
