Teardrinker Killing the Flowers Will Not Delay Spring

/incoming/tearkill.jpgTeardrinker, from Rotterdam, released this short debut EP last year, gaining wide recognition despite having only two songs to their name. This includes the eagled-eared, indefatigable Fiadh Productions, who have rightly seen fit to give it a second life by releasing it on cassette.

There’s a wonderfully warming guitar sound as an invitation into their world, which is welcomely and easily accepted. It quickly develops to reveal something here between screamo, post-hardcore and through a slight darkness casting shadows at the back, a blackened hardcore sound. The upwards inflections on the guitars retain a posi-mindset through it all, a kinship with Coilguns and Birds in Row to be found at various points.

Yet it never wholly can be assigned to easy comparisons, instead subtly different here and there and completely their own. The tempo they maintain is perfect, urgent and hopeful, while the contrast between beseeching anger (exemplified through the vocal outpourings) and its core beauty are beguiling. It is effortlessly excellent. Now, impatiently, let’s see what comes next.
