As for why sheffield seems to be obsessed with demolishing all buildings that are not either
student bars
student flats
executive flats
to build more of the above list
or more coffee houses selling the same over priced crappy coffee.
To be fair, though, it's not like what they're knocking down are any great shakes. It's either dilapidated works that are never going to get restored, or horrible 60s buildings. The only exception I can think of is the Yorkshire Grey, which was a nice looking pub, but nothing special.
