No games this weekend Gareth, but next weekend it's:

      Friday, 26 February 2010
      Wales v France, 20:00
      Saturday, 27 February 2010
      England v Ireland, 16:00
      Italy v Scotland, 13:30

Cheers, will try and catch Wales/France and see if I still enjoy it!

Oh come on he's had some brilliant moments, mostly its about the stare/beard though. I played against Scott Quinnell once when I was in school in Wales, he ran through our forwards like Jonah Lomu after two big meals.

yeah, he's had brilliant moments against fucking GIANTS like georgia and namibia.

      i hate chabal.:P
    • pull-my-plonkerpull-my-plonker
    • His best position was Number8 in my opinion - the guy can carry a ball with one finger and he's hard to bring down from a standing start, so he's ideal at the back of the scrum. Can't lift him in the line-out mind, as he's about as heavy as 4.6 aeroplanes.

    • Chabal definitely had his moments as a rampaging no 8, great ball carrier on his day. He's not been the same since England completely negated him in the RWC semifinal in 2007. And he was never a second row, never.

Sackey's been injured for a while. He went off the boil big time before that anyway.

In my previous rant, I forgot to mention Chris Ashton - best English wing at the moment, no question. And he's not even made the squad, so we have put up with tits-for-hands Monye - the man is a great athlete, but a severely average rugby player. Cueto, on the other hand, is a very accomplished player who's forgotten how to score tries, which is a bit of an issue for a winger.

Nah, I agree with Si, Cueto is a great technical player, but nowhere near as prolific as he should be.

I hope Armitage's form picks up too. He's been a bit boring thus far.

    • England are bloody rubbish this year. Boo. As per normal I am turning traitor and supporting France

    • missed all games due to "other commitments".
    • pull-my-plonkerpull-my-plonker
    • England played OK, it was a tough game - I thought a draw would've been a fairer result.

Italy v Scotland was the battle of the wooden-spoon-chasers - a poor contest, but Italy deserved their victory for good forward muscle and defence.

Didn't see Fra v Wales, but it's looking like the Year of the Frog.
    • bad admiralbad admiral
    • totally. am a bit deflated as i didn't catch the game and wanted a perfect run, but getting behind england, i suppose it's one of those things...

anyone up for super saturday drinkyplops????

defensively sound and strong, but attacking-wise didn't do much
we gifted them those 2 opening tries, and they rarely threatened us in our 22

best of a bad bunch though

I am. Did you manage to get the day off then?

My brain is telling me there is some kinda gig that night too... though I now have no idea who could be playing...

      Help.

I actually thought France played a very clever game, just hoofed the ball at Wales and let them self-destruct. They knew their defence would stand up to most Welsh counter-attacking and I'm fairly sure they went out to look for those interceptions. They've got enough attacking prowess to unpick teams unaided, but I think they realised Wales would gift them a lot with the right encouragement.

Ireland ended up playing a similar game against England. Their kicking game was good and England's was oddly non-existent - over-compensating for the Italy game, perhaps? Ireland were happy just to let England go side to side all day, and took their chances clincally when they arrived.

England need to do several things to sort themselves out. 1, stick a rocket up Danny Care's arse so he gets to the breakdowns in less than 5 minutes. 2, tell Wilkinson it's ok to stand in the same time zone as Care on attacking plays. 3, send all the backs on "Kicking from hand 101" course.
Having been a staunch Wilkinson defender, I'm increasingly of the opinion that Flood should be given some serious game time in the remaining matches. He's been in good form for Leicester since he came back from injury and Wilko is not having the best of it in any department.

Spot on, except I thought you could have bigged up the AWESOME French front row a bit more, and not used gift as a verb. I don't hold with that. And the 'verb' 'regifted' needs to be taken out and SHOT

    • pull-my-plonkerpull-my-plonker
    • Yeah, I'm a big Wilkinson fan too. Always has been, and I still think he's the right man for the job, but he's definitely off form. Flood could be a good replacement.

      Whatever happened to Olly Barkley?

Good to see Jamie Noon back too. A bit one-dimensional perhaps, but he's such a powerhouse. Tait seems to be struggling. It makes you realise how lucky we were to have Tindall+Greenwood when we did - a brilliant complement of skills at centre.

shush you. "gifted" is totally a verb. the french front eight are absolutely unstoppable. they only commit 3 - 4 men at a time and the rest are used as battering rams. french defence is also pretty inpenetrable as well.

si...totally with you man...the only time i saw england play i was screaming "where the fuck are you scrum half?!?!?!" pretty much the whole game. having not seen the weekend's games and having had a very ropey match report from juggers, which told me little, i am unable to comment on specifics, but am able to make generalisations.

i am totally stoked about super saturday! pete, my man...where do you fancy doing this...there's a good pub down the road from me, or if you know anywhere nearer you or central that you want to go, i'm all ears. I would suggest early birds catch chair shaped worms though.;)
