After a twelve year hiatus following their debut, Michigan’s Lord Centipede re-emerge, seemingly using that time to bundle up insane levels of energy and adrenaline to unleash on Electric Boogaloo. The ever reliable Morbid & Miserable Records are in charge of the invitations to their comeback party.
This is five tracks of fast-paced, indefatigable crossover thrash with hints of doom; rough, raw and ready to fight. As Dumb as Fuck launches us into the action with a thrashy battle-ready beginning, you have the sense you’re witnessing a clash of titans, like Municipal Waste jousting with High on Fire. There’s an authenticity to it that makes this thrilling.
There are moments of 80s thrash, tempered by a distant sludge mindset and, the longer the EP goes, strong decaying whiffs of the magnificent Send More Paramedics, minus the out-and-out zombie obsession of course. There are times it has me smiling thinking of how this could have been a re-recorded cassette being traded between Birmingham, Florida, Sao Paolo and Stockholm back in another era.
The lyrical themes, where I could pick them up, are suitably ridiculous – dinosaurs, swords, stealing and fighting and a pertinent reminder to “never fuck with the wolf witch”. It is like being at a party, but the show is over too soon, for this a fun-packed EP I’m glad to have been invited to.
