Fumar Mata Demo 2025

/incoming/fumademo.jpgThat all too familiar amp/guitar feedback wail greets us, signalling a general noisiness to follow. The entering clunking riff confirms and expands upon this opening remit. From there into slow and drone with vocals that screech out from behind the sheet of static. There’s a hint of The Body in that way, before collapsing into a headrush of whirlwind instruments and screams, doom but then drone but then equally a hardcore ferocity approaching the likes of Leeched, makes for an uncomfortable but perversely enjoyable ride.

This demo debut barely passes ten minutes, but that first listen to the opening song makes an impression. It is the first of three – with the second a sub-two minute bridge track of more noise and static-obscured samples – but there’s something in the harsh strangeness of it all that drew me in to the world of Fumar Mata.

There’s the industrial scarred landscape once more on it’s closing track, a noise impacted mechanical drone yet more than some dark ambient noise solo project – it is underpinned beneath the layer after layer of noise by a forward progressing rhythm section, just about. You could draw vague comparisons to someone like Khost or a Justin Broadrick project perhaps, definitely doomier to be fully in Author & Punisher worlds but still as desolate.

It needs more – more development yes, but that will come. But I want more too, more of this, right now. Three tracks wasn’t enough, but certainly is to garner interest for what they can do from here.
