After Glasgow’s Teleost released their debut album in December, one half of the band messaged to say their other band, an international duo with someone from Germany by the name of Pak40 had an EP out the following week. I also reviewed another German band twice in 2025 – Megadrone Spacedoom – and lo and behold, I only then learn they feature the same person. Who now tells me of another of their bands… who also had a December release.
Some people have enviable, ridiculous levels of creativity… and this doom version of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is why I’m here listening to Keys of Henoch. I’m glad too, as this is towering music – as the band say in unmissable caps lock heading on their site – BLACK DRONE DOOM. There are four tracks, the first and third shorter, two and four well over ten minutes. The shorter tracks have a similarity in creating strange electronic droning atmospheres through shimmering, humming noises, overloads of static, manic drums and/or ghostly disembodied voices.
The second track, Absalom, Forever starts with low bass notes, joined and its volume increased quickly so it fast becomes this sludge, doom, drone repeating riff in a Black Shape of Nexus manner. A blackened smear darkens the whole and unsettling you just as you start to dream of wallowing gleefully in the riff’s metronomic allure. There’s more to it than simple cavernous doom worship though, the song utilising its length to evolve subtly, before erupting like Godzilla from out of a sea of static in one final riff behemoth blow out.
It ends with Path to Bersheba, heavier still, a black metal charge from out of frosty climes, reminding me a little of a doom-end Bolzer, bursting with electrified atmosphere, devilish to its end. It completes the album, an experience that feels like you’ve been in some nether realm, dark and unsettling, under black clouded skies that never break. It takes a minute or two to snap out of the sensation such is the power generated. I’d recommend you all to try it for yourselves.
