Why is heavy metal so popular in wealthy countries?

    • Interesting, but surely it only means something if compared to all other types of music in all countries - without that, for all we know, it's is the same picture with any genre, or even metal is inversely related when factored in the mean "any style band" per capita.

Unless I missed the bit where they did that.

    • No, I agree. It's a much more nuanced picture. I thought weather probably had more to do with it.

    • he should cross correlate this with my study on how pointless research is more prevalent in wealthy countries

    • More interestingly, why is death metal popular in poorer countries like Malaysia, Peru, Mexico, Czech Republic etc? That's always baffled me.

    • There's more war in poorer countries too. Does this mean metal cures war???

    • This data is meaningless.

A better question might well be "Why is Heavy Metal more popular in the places where it originally came from" - to which the answer should be obvious.

Certain cultures have really embraced metal though - South America being a great example.

I think this is much more about culture and language than it is economics.
