/incoming/minodown.jpgForgive the brevity of or lack of helpful narrative within this review – I don’t really have the frame of reference for this style of music (ie it’s not doom), or the words to describe why I like this album so much. It’s not in keeping with usual ninehertz fare and I’ve abandoned writing this a couple of times, but its songs keep creeping back into my brain, so I’m writing down something, anything, as a recognition of its catchiness, an ode to its lo-fi punk charms, or maybe an exorcism to finally stop its voice from nagging me to do this.

The band is Minot from Montana, with their album Down and Out at the Thunderbird, twelve songs of lo-fi garage-rock surf-punk. The trio of members seem to revolve around their instruments and microphone, which is the indicative of the cool vibes you find flowing through the album. Standouts include the flower-psych meets post-punk of Gatekeeper and Bottle of Tumz, which has me searching YouTube to try and find the RnB song its rhythms remind me of… many painful videos watched later, and with my algorithm ruined, I find its Sean Paul’s Get Busy (as if played by Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster). Somehow, I still love it.

This may not be that helpful a review, but I’ve got the monkey off my back and hopefully encouraged one or two of you to see if it has the same addictive effects.
