Fardo are a three piece from Córdoba in Argentina, describing themselves as “banda de rock blues pesado y psicodélico”, which needs little translation.
It’s a really likeable little record, allowing a little for a touch of rawness in the writing and delivery that comes with it being a debut. As Podridos kicks off events, you find ramshackle stoner-fied guitars tilting and staggering around in a cool way. The vocals are nice in an airy stoner rock style, where after the track lazes around with a trippy doom sound, not doing too much but consistently attractive, drifting into psychedelic realms through its inactivity, rousing only a little towards its end.
There are plenty of highlights from there onwards, from the cool stoner-psych aura with distinctly Dead Meadow styled vocals of Cuchillo de monte to the cosmic-noise astral voyage of Brujos del campo. My favourite is perhaps third song Del fuego azul, with its bluesy stoner boogie, reminding me fondly of classic The Atomic Bitchwax.
I chanced upon this and am glad I did – as it is a fun, really cool stoner blues record.
