     last year a massive effort was made to put on the alldayer in london is anything even being done this year even on a smaller scale or cant you be arsed at all anymore?
     
     if between the people who claim to run this site if any of you are even bothered anymore then do somthing with it and make the name worth somthing and do somthing to support the scene you claim to champoin so much. though im doubtfull that this will even happen considdering this thread has even been allowed to reach two pages and still going with out anysign of anything being even remotly moderated or locked kinda says youve all lost interest but please prove me wrong and make this site and forum somthing worth reading again for gods sake or just take the fucker down and put it to bed.

     ninehertz is, and always was - from the very first meeting - a review website (or fanzine before that). Not a gig promotion collective, not even a forum. In the last 6 weeks, 22 new reviews have been added to the site, ranging from unknown bands across the world, to bigger bands like Roadsaw as well as one of a band from the local 'scene' Flatlands.
     
     We never said we were in it for the Sheffield 'scene' - we're a national website and the locations of those who post in our forum go to prove that.
     
     As for the gigs we've done - to say they're unorganised is a tad unfair I think - in the vast majority, all have run to time, bands haven't had their sets cut short, bands have been paid, equipment has been arranged, attendances (while never high) never dire (but then getting hundreds of people down isn't the central point in music like ours anyway, surely - it's about helping the band, getting a respectable amount of people down and treating them right, you know 'supporting the scene'. And we've done this with no backing from a club or drinks sales - money made from the door and if necessary our pockets. That isn't a dig at Corp, it's just a fact about our gigs.
     
     As for gigs this year, yeah we've been quiet, and it's not because we're worried about attendances, just circumstance. Again this isn't the essence of ninehertz. The ninehertz name was on the flyer for Steve's (Tino Insana on here) Palehorse and Moloch gig recently - two of the best sludge bands the UK has - you weren't at that - I'm not bothered but it seems to contradict the feeling put forward in this thread and the Saviours one that I (and others) should have attended that even though I don't like them "for the scene". As for future gigs and alldayers, yes we are doing one - there is a sticky thread in Bands and Gigs about it which is hard to miss.
     
     As for not locking the thread - this shows we do care rather than we don't. If you were correct that we only cared about chatting shit with friends in the forum, then it would have been easy for us to lock the threads, censor some posts and maintain the status quo. The reason no one has responded thus far is because it would have fuelled a fire and we doubted we'd have had reasonable debate - and that in some posts there are personal attacks which contravene our (and most forums) rules, so we've been talking privately about it.
     
     Finally, I'm glad I can type something now and welcome a sensible debate Tom. I'd reiterate two points - (1) I don't like Saviours, therefore I didn't go see them in Sheffield. I'm not going to go to a gig by a band I don't like, and doing so isn't anything to do with "the scene". It's opinion, the same reason why some people don't come to some ninehertz gigs.... (2) ninehertz is first and foremost a review website. Always was, always will be.

     I suspect its because this year its download only, download isn't as cool as a physical CD and so less people are interested.

    • I've always thought this was more than just a reviews site, but a bit of a heavy music community. Although I realise it's a pretty small one. Always pretty shocked there isn't more action/interest in pretty much the only UK specialised stoner/doom etc forum.
      
      I like it, or most aspects of it, but what it actually 'is' seems to be different things to different people.

      so bearing that in mind...
      
      on the people here: i like talking shite and hanging out with cool peeps. i don't really know much about music and can't really play any instruments. i like the fact that those things don't put people off.
      
      on scenes: scenes tend to be composed of lonely perverts who still live with their mums. star trek has a scene. mcgiver also has a scene. sex tourism is also measured on a scale of how scene you are. music scenes have existed in the past but end up getting all squealy (us hardcore), imprisoned and murdery (black metal). catholocism has a big following. that's a good example of a successful scene.
      
      on the 9 - 5: i fucking WISH! working shifts means that this forum makes you feel a lot less isolated when it's late at night and no one's about.
      
      on content: this gets updated every now and again and that's grand although it does rather depend on contribution. obviously there's some pretty professional writers on here, which is fucking cool and some right spastics which is also really fucking cool because they all write stuff and it gets treated as equal contribution.
      
      on gigs: the thing i like about this is that 9hz is more about people than really cool bands. when gigs get put on (by whoever) it's a really good opportunity to hook up with folk from all over the place and be entertained together. if they bring their friends, then they can become your friends too if you're not a total spacker. i don't know if other boards like dis or dssd can boast people who actually like each other based on more than just what group is currently really cool (who will become shit when they get too popular or too melodic or too experimental).
      
      whenever i've been doing ass kicking related stuff in other places, i've been made very welcome by the good people of sheffield, leeds, nottingham, coventry, bradford on avon, newbury and newport, without which there would have been no gig for me. does this count as support? i think it does.
      
      if anything, 9hz only weakness (if you're that way inclined) is that it's too humanistic. maybe if they were all a bit more uptight about what we had to do, play, write, say, wear, eat, drink, who we choose to include and what criteria make something worthy of inclusion and what isn't, we'd all be fucking billionaires by now.
      
      so yeah. sort it out you bunch of pussies

      I'm still confused about the scale of success he's using which seems to peak at Def Leppard but levels out to an acceptable high with BMTH. Are these goals we should all be striving for?
      I think this is a great site , what's even remotely similar in the UK ?
      that site that stocky runs that's full of reviews by genuine music fans , friendly banter and helpful and friendly advice?
      oh yeah he hasn't got a website, he just logs on here as part of his tag team with slomo to attack people now and then.

    • Bad Admiral and I we're discussing how Def Leppard managed to come out as the biggest band from Sheffield, am I right in thinking the Arctic Monkeys are from Sheffield?
      Stocky did exactly the same thing when we were organising the Ninehertz all dayer in 2008, it was all negative comments, nothing constructive and he's had another pop at it here again. In response to that comment, we got over 100 people through the door to a gig with relatively unknown bands and some more well known ones i.e. Gentlemans Pistols, EOLB (since when is having a member of Hangnail in the band a bad thing?).
      Putting on Gentlemans Pistols as headline worked out well, they went down a storm, it gave them the opportunity to headline rather than support at a venue like the Underworld which isnt always an option for bands of that size. The poster side of things worked well too, a lot of positive comments on how the Underworld hadnt looked that good before etc. The Ninehertz name was on every ticket, every flyer, every poster and a load of people that turned up definitly don't use this forum but still came along to see what was on offer. So in that respect I think London worked well. What I'd like to see is whether Stocky would stick his neck on the line and put on a gig himself, because at the end of the day if it doesnt go well it comes down to the organiser. If he wants to be that opinionated about others and slate the decisions made about gigs he's not even willing to attend he should put his money where his mouth is and show everyone how its done. Same goes for bands, rather than talking about a band you used to be in how about doing something now and showing what you've got, no ones cares for people with over inflated egos who used to be in this or that band before they made it big.
      Criticizing someone like Podge who plays in a band and runs a label all off his own back is just low and reaks of jealousy.
      This years gig in Sheffield will be great fun, the last one was really good and everyone put a lot of effort into it. The people that matter will be there enjoying it while others can sit at home stewing about how things should be in their ideal little world.
